We are a highly traditional alehouse right in the heart of the town, offering a warm welcome and a great selection of real ales, whiskies and other drinks. We have been awarded Branch Pub of the Year by CAMRA for 2013, 2014, 2015, 2018 and now 2019, as well as Pub of the Season for Spring 2016. We are sometimes not easily spotted when passing, but you’ll find it hard to leave once you come in. Look out for the double fronted bay windows – we look like a shop because, once upon a time, the premises were a wine and spirit merchants. Come in and have a look for the photo of the time a lorry came through the front of the pub and an accompanying passage from a recent Bill Bryson book.”
