“A 66 mile walk linking East Croydon with the South Coast; crossing the North Downs, passing through the High Weald and Ashdown Forest to the Cuckmere Valley and along the cliffs and beach to Newhaven. With concise maps and route directions including what can be seen along the way.”
Vanguard Way: The Walk from East Croydon to Newhaven

“Two routes with a common aim, the Wealdway and the Vanguard Way, set out to walk to the sea. The Wealdway is an 82-mile long-distance footpath from Gravesend, on the edge of the Thames, east of London, to Beachy Head. The Vanguard Way is a 62-mile footpath from East Croyden to the coast at Seaford Head. Both walks traverse delightful countryside and offer much of interest, whether walked as a whole or in short sections. From Thames-side to clifftop, from suburbs to sea, in the Wealdway and the Vanguard Way we have two long-distance routes that traverse the country spreading south from London, and in so doing explore some of the finest landscapes in the south-east.”
