Ebor Way
The Ebor Way is approximately 70 miles long and connects Helmsley and Ilkley. At Helmsley it connects to the Cleveland Way, and at Ilkley it connects to the Dales Way. It is mostly a gentle walk, and one that is not too long for those who like to take their time taking in the many views.
One particular lingering place is York, and many may wish to take a day off walking the Ebor Way to visit the many sights of York.
As can be seen from the table below, there is plenty of accommodation options, and much choice of lunch-time stops, making this a good option for walkers of all abilities.
Accommodation
We have split accommodation into Hotels & Inns and Bed & Breakfast. Guest House accommodation is included with Bed and Breakfast, and while we realise many of them are as good as some hotels, in order to avoid confusion we have opted for the simpler option.
Restaurants and Pubs
We have attempted to give as much information as possible, but restaurants and pubs are notoriously changeable. Wherever known, we have included information on pubs serving real ale and/or food. Please let us know if our information is out of date. For restaurants we have included tea shops and cafes, as well as bar meals. For pubs, we have tried to promote those pubs serving real ale.
Guidebooks & Maps
Guidebook
The Ebor Way by Ken Piggin
Not a guidebook, but guide cards, in a plastic wallet.
Unfortunately, this is the only guide for the Ebor Way, and although the route description is fair, Ordnance Survey 1:25,000 scale maps will certainly be required as well.
It is not available through Amazon, but can be ordered through Ramblers Association (we cannot get used to calling that organization `Ramblers’): www.ramblers.org.uk/info/paths/name/e/ebor.htm
Maps
Do not feel tempted to save money buying the 1:50,000 Ordnance Survey maps; they do not have anywhere near the same detail as the 1:25,000 scale maps, and do not show field boundaries.
OS 1:25000 Explorer maps required for the Ebor Way:
All of the following are available through us via Amazon.
